About The Barbershop
- To provide an affordable space for Nashville theatre companies and other artists to rehearse, perform, and exhibit their work.
- Our city continues to grow and artistic space is becoming harder to find. Small theater companies need to be able to make money so they can pay their actors and designers and they need a stable home in order to schedule a season and build an audience.
- Theater patrons need more opportunities to see high quality affordable theater, therefore all theater performances will be $15.
About the Building:
Billy’s Barbershop was a fixture of the Preston-Taylor neighborhood. Neighbors got their first haircut at Billy’s, grew up there, and knew him as a friend. After Billy’s death, DRKMTTR Collective used it as an innovative and eclectic venue space presenting many local and national bands. In March of 2018 Nettie Kraft and Graham Mote bought the Barbershop with the goal of continuing to share this space with the performing artists and art lovers of Nashville.
A note about safety and parking:
Parking is limited so please park smart and be aware of your surroundings. Don’t leave valuables in your car and remember to lock your doors. Parking on the street in front of the Barbershop is your best bet. Carpool with a friend or treat yourself to a Lyft or Uber! Please do not park in the field across the street. You will be towed. The Barbershop Theater can’t accept any responsibility for your vehicle.
About The Creators…
We have been producing plays, performances, and events in Denver, Chicago, and Nashville for 20 years. As Nashville continues to grow, we want to help create a home for local artists and theatergoers. This all depends on being affordable and profitable. Small theater companies need to be able to make money so that they can pay their actors and designers. We want companies to have a predictable home and to be able to schedule a season for the year. We want people who appreciate theater to have many options to see high quality affordable theater. All of our shows will be $15. Whatever you see at The Barbershop Theater will be unrestricted by content or topics, created by a roster of curated artists who are willing to take risks, and bring you an engaging night of theater.
